The corpse of a woman is ignored as a child paddles and a man plays bat and ball on the beach in Formia, Italy. The lifeless cadaver of the 78-year-old Russian woman lying near the waves is treated with total indifference. A white sheet shields her skin and face from the public, but even those who have a good view of the body barely bat an eyelid. The alert was raised when two women noticed the woman’s collapsed body in the shallow water, Italian news agency ANSA said.

Just as a person’s fingerprints and DNA are unique, so are a person’s feet. They are not only unique in size, but also in shape. Features such as a high bridge, flat feet, bunions or long toes all contribute to making feet unique. Scientific and medical literature purport that “feet are more individual than faces” and that even “twins with identical faces do not have the same foot dimensions.”

It is a known fact that shoe and footprints left behind at a crime scene can provide vital evidence, relating to the perpetrator to the investigating officer. Shoes leave many different prints, based on the sole design and its wear and tear patterns. If a suspect was barefoot on a crime scene, his or her footprints can also be photographed, or lifted with a dust-print lifter, or castings can be made to preserve the footprints for analysis. However, there is another expert field regarding foot evidence, namely foot imprint evidence.

It is important to realize that foot imprints differ from shoe- and footprints. Foot imprints are imprints left in the inside of footwear, and are caused by contact between the footwear and the wearer’s foot. Analysis of the insole imprints can be used to link a person to a piece of footwear. Shoe- and footprints, on the other hand, are prints that are made on a floor, in soil or dust.

Forensic analysts deal differently with foot imprints than with bare footprints. However, the interaction between the foot and the footwear, and indications of the foot and shoe size match, must also be taken into consideration when foot imprints are analyzed.

Hi! I was wondering, if I give you a picture of a skull with a bullet hole that I took, could you or your follows tell me everything about it that you/they may know? (type of gun, male/female, how close gun was, possible age and/or conditions the person had, etc) I took the picture in the Paris catacombes and I've been fascinated by him/her ever since!

hi, do you know how long it takes for a grenade to explode? like for example, once you pull the pin, how many seconds before it actually explodes? i've heard that some people hold on to it a moment before throwing it, to make sure that the target doesn't catch it and throw it back.

The grains have a highly sculptured outer wall (exine), which assists its dispersal by improving its adherence to pollinating insects. The characteristic surface of a pollen grain is used by botanists to recognise and classify plants. Each pollen grain contains a male gamete (reproductive cell) that is intended to fertilise an egg or ovule (female gamete), and initiate the formation of a seed for a new plant.

Fig. 4: The right foot twisted anti-clockwise when impacted against the tiles of the awning causing curved linear abrasions. An avulsed skin on medial part of the right heel matched the wood supporting tiles on the awning (double headed arrow) on the 16^th floor.

Cause of death was confirmed to be injuries due to fall from height. The total force of impact acting on the deceased body can be confirmed to be the total force of free falling person from the 17^th floor and landed on the tarmac of ground floor. This is confirmed by the evidence of broken tiles on the 16^th floor’s awning which matched injuries found on deceased’s sole.

This is an example of supercooling – the process by which a very pure liquid is chilled to a temperature just below its usual freezing point without actually making the jump to its solid state. Bottled water is perfect for this, especially the kind that’s been purified via reverse osmosis, a process that strips water of all its particulates. This particulates can act as “seed crystals,” or “nuclei,” to which a liquid phase on the cusp of becoming solid can attach, and crystalize around. In this video, a seed crystal is introduced in the form of a cube of already-frozen water. As soon as it’s introduced, the liquid phase rapidly crystallizes and attaches to the solid one, kicking off a chain reaction of ice-formation.

Water that freezes as it’s being poured out of the bottle also solidifies upon exposure to a seed crystal, which, in this case, is an already-frozen surface. This is similar to the effect observed when freezing rain, supercooled by its flightpath through sub-freezing layers of atmosphere, comes into contact with an object cooled to a temperature below freezing. The result is a phenomenon known as glaze-ice, which – if you live somewhere cold – you may have seen before, coating the spindly extremities of tree branches.

There is a whole spectrum of biting activity in the human species ranging from so-called amorous activity to serious body injury resulting in loss of an ear or nose or infliction of a deep and penetrating wound. The relationship of biter to victim is also complex. It may be adult to adult, adult to child, child to adult or child to child. Both adults and children may self inflict bites in a surprisingly aggressive manner. Adults biting other adults or children will almost inevitably constitute criminal activity and may be associated with actual or grievous bodily harm, rape, murder or child abuse.

Biting defensively is also a possibility for deep bite wounds. I inflicted a serious bite wound on another person because he was trying to strangle me.

You are right. If I were being attacked, I’d do anything I could to fight back. Sometimes you might only be able to bite the person. If that’s your only means of defending yourself, you sure would bite hard and wouldn’t think twice about it.
